I did sneak in two joists on Thursday night, but it wasn&#8217;t worth posting about, but I did take a picture.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_165\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/more-joists.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-165\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-165\" title=\"More joists\" src=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/more-joists-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/more-joists-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/more-joists.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-165\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Some more joists.  You can see my gas pipe for the fireplace is running under them.  I thought about moving it, but when the decking is in place I&#39;ll never really see it again.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We started pretty early today.\u00a0 My neighbor stopped by to tell me it was looking good.\u00a0 I think he meant it although I think my projects tend to be eyesores.. mainly while they are underway..\u00a0\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He was having a yard sale so there was a lot of traffic in the cul-de-sac this morning.\u00a0 The weather was nice. \u00a0 I slapped together a rolling miter saw stand.\u00a0 Up nice and high so I can see where exactly my cuts are going to land.\u00a0\u00a0 It also has pretty good-sized extension arms to help hold the boards while I was cutting.\u00a0 It saved a lot of time today and\u00a0 definitely helped my knees without having to get up and down all the time to make those cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Victor and I got all the joists except two up in place and then ran out of joist hanger nails.\u00a0 When we got back from ACE Hardware, Uncle showed up to lend a hand and we put up the final two joists pretty quickly.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_170\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/all-the-joists-are-in.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-170\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-170\" title=\"all the joists are in\" src=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/all-the-joists-are-in-225x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/all-the-joists-are-in-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/all-the-joists-are-in.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-170\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The light colored ones are the new joists we put in between the old joists. Here you can see him verifying the accuracy with his iPhone app. <\/p><\/div>\n<p>Some of the wood looked like it was from the &#8220;top of the bunk&#8221; that 84 Lumber delivered and was already changed a little by the sun.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t mind it really.\u00a0 Everything tends to end up nearly the same color in the end if you wait long enough.\u00a0 We probably won&#8217;t stain it for quite a while until we are sure it is totally dried out.<\/p>\n<p>Another thing I am trying, as I am keeping the original joist\/facial\/ledger board structure, was to paint on some copper based wood preservative.\u00a0 Vic did a good job keeping it off of himself and did all of the ledger board.\u00a0 I did the outside face boards and some of the joists that were more worse for wear.\u00a0 I hope it keeps the older wood around for a while longer.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_164\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/green-chemicals.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-164\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-164\" title=\"green chemicals\" src=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/green-chemicals-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/green-chemicals-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/green-chemicals.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-164\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The smell is something pretty wacky.  I can still smell it on my hands.
