{"id":190,"date":"2010-10-09T18:54:06","date_gmt":"2010-10-09T23:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/?p=190"},"modified":"2010-10-09T18:54:06","modified_gmt":"2010-10-09T23:54:06","slug":"deck-remodel-%e2%80%93-saturday-day-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/junkwood.info\/?p=190","title":{"rendered":"Deck Remodel \u2013 Saturday (day 18)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We spent the entire day working on the decking and got it finished!\u00a0 J helped most of the morning by pre-cutting off the end of the wood.\u00a0 Later on she was measuring and doing the cuts from start to finish.\u00a0 By noon there was only about 3 rows to go.\u00a0 Unfortunately, I estimated a little too well and we were running out of wood for decking.\u00a0 I had to disassemble my cutting stand to retrieve 3 of the 12&#8243; decking boards.\u00a0 Rats!<\/p>\n<p>The last rows required a lot of notching to go around the posts.\u00a0 That took all afternoon to complete and I wrapped it up around 5 PM right before dinner.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t help that I had to cut the notches with an old toaster!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_191\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/toaster.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-191\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-191\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/toaster-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/toaster-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/toaster.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-191\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">OK.. well it isn&#39;t a toaster, but they sure don&#39;t make them like this anymore.  Maybe I should update myself with a new one.  It sure is noisy!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The notches were easy if there were only one in a board, but when you have two or three in one board, all of a sudden the tolerances start mattering a lot more.\u00a0 The cutting took a long time.\u00a0 I think there might be a better way to cut them but I couldn&#8217;t think of a better way to do it and I really don&#8217;t like using a skil-saw.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_192\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/deckingdone2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-192\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-192\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/deckingdone2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/deckingdone2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/junkwood.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/deckingdone2.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-192\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The board from Lowes in the middle sticks out like a sore thumb.  I am sure the sun will take care of this in a few weeks.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The worst part of doing the decking is how hard it is on your knees.
